Company History

Bac2 was formed in 2002 by Dr. Graham Murray to develop commercial-scale electrically conductive polymer composites. Mike Stannard joined as Managing Director in 2005 to expand Bac2’s commercial activities in the fuel cell market and related industries. The company is currently finalising the development of ElectroPhen™.

Bac2 is privately held and has raised funding from London Seed Capital, London Business Angels and other committed investors. It has also secured grant funding from the Carbon Trust and the DTI.

Bac2 is finalising development of its flagship product, ElectroPhen™ as well as capitalising on its leading conductive polymer expertise with the development of a range of exciting fuel cell plate solutions.

James Lewis

James Lewis, Non-executive Chairman

James is an electronics engineer and entrepreneur who has worked in Europe and the United States. He co-founded Oxford Semiconductor in 1992 and headed up its sales and marketing activities, turning it into a global business with 150 employees. After returning to the UK from the US James formed Parallaxis  to apply his experience and knowledge in supporting start-up and small hi-tech companies to realize their full potential. James has a degree in electronic engineering from the University of London.

Mike Stannard

Mike Stannard, CEO

Mike is an electronics engineer and entrepreneur with a track record of success in growing businesses. He co-owned and managed a specialist construction company for 7 years. Following this, he was responsible for launching the University of Southampton spin out, Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping (OHM), a company he saw through two funding rounds to a £48 million AIM flotation. He is a major investor in Bac2. Mike holds a Masters Degree in Electronic Engineering from Southampton.

Dr. Graham Murray

Dr. Graham Murray, Founder and CTO

Graham has 20 years experience working in manufacturing industry in technical and management roles, supporting the European business of a large polymer company.  His PhD was obtained researching the novel chemistry at the heart of ElectroPhen and much of his time in industry was spent developing products based on the polymer technology.  In 2002 Graham formed Bac2 with the aim of exploiting ElectroPhen's novel polymer properties in new industrial markets.
